The short answer: Workday runs hiring at 269 of the 743 large employers we verified against their live careers portals — 38.0%, the most common ATS but nowhere near the "75%" repeated online (707 verified, re-verified July 2026). Workday parses standard formats reliably; what rejects candidates is usually the structured application form and recruiter-set knockout questions, not exotic resume-parsing failures. Here is what actually matters.

First: is your target company even on Workday?

Before you optimize for Workday, check that your employer actually runs it — 62% of large employers don't. Look the company up free: which ATS does my target company use? Verified examples on Workday right now: Adobe, Bank of America, Boeing, CVS Health, Capital One, Salesforce.

How Workday actually reads your resume

When you apply through a myworkdayjobs.com portal, three things happen:

  • The parser extracts your resume into structured fields — work history, education, skills. Workday's parser is modern and handles clean, single-column PDFs well.
  • You confirm (or fix) the parsed fields. This is the step most people rush. Whatever sits in the FORM FIELDS is what recruiters see and filter on — not your beautifully formatted PDF. If the parser mangled a job title or date, fix it in the form.
  • Recruiter-defined screening runs. Knockout questions ("Do you have X certification?", "Are you authorized to work in...?") and recruiter filters on the structured data do most of the rejecting. Workday does not have one universal "ATS score."
  • The seven things that actually matter

  • Single-column, text-based PDF. No tables, no text boxes, no two-column layouts, no graphics. Test whether your text is selectable — if you can't select it, the parser can't read it.
  • Standard section headings. "Experience," "Education," "Skills" — not "Where I've Made an Impact."
  • Fix every parsed field in the form. Two extra minutes here beats any resume trick. Titles, dates, and employers in the structured fields drive recruiter filters.
  • Mirror the job posting's exact phrasing for skills and titles — recruiters search the structured data by keyword.
  • Answer knockout questions literally and honestly. A "No" on a hard requirement usually auto-rejects; there is no parser trick around it.
  • Don't rely on "easy apply" resume-only flows. On Workday, the account/profile you create per company IS the application.
  • Reuse your Workday profile carefully. Workday portals are per-company tenants — your profile does not carry between employers, so re-check parsed data every time.
  • What doesn't matter (myths)

  • "Format for Workday because 75% of companies use it." False — 38.0% of verified large employers. The top 3 systems (Workday, Greenhouse, SAP SuccessFactors) cover 60.3%, and each parses differently.
  • White-text keyword stuffing. Parsed text is normalized; recruiters see keyword dumps in the structured fields. It reads as spam because it is.
  • "Workday auto-rejects in minutes." Fast rejections are almost always knockout questions or a recruiter's filter — decided by your form answers, not secret AI.
  • Check your resume against Workday's parsing rules

Run your resume through our free ATS checker — no signup, instant score — and pick your target company so the check runs against the ATS it actually uses. If your employer is one of the 269 verified Workday companies, you'll get Workday-specific parsing feedback.
